Nokia has finally started to ship the smaller version of its N97 smartphone known as the Nokia N97 mini (how apt). It will retail for roughly $664 in Europe after conversion, but at that price point the device is unlocked so you’re free to shack up with a carrier of your choice.

In Technology Group has revealed that the calling/communications user interface of the upcoming xpPhone is ready to rock and roll in front of the public. Just to recap your memory, the xpPhone will come with a 4.8″ WVGA touchscreen display while running on Windows XP alongside a yet-unknown AMD processor, where it is more than capable of offering sync-free access to Outlook contacts. Dongfang has released its latest clone handset, the Nckla W71 that will mimic the Nokia E71, although this one won’t run on the Symbian S60 operating system. Orange has signed a multi-year strategic partnership with Internet giant Google to offer customers one-click access to Google Mobile App through a range of mobile platforms, regardless of whether they are Symbian S60, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry OS. The application will come with links to other Google products including Google News, Google Mail and Google Maps apart from being able to access the Orange mobile portal amidst other services. This makes Orange the first global mobile operator that brings Google Search App on different mobile platforms.

Barely 3 days after the rumor that Nintendo is working on a DSi that boasts a larger display, along comes confirmation that the new DSi LL as it will be known will come with 4″ displays as tipped off, retailing for a pretty pricey $221 after conversion. This places it above the Sony PSP-3000 in terms of pricing, although it won’t be as expensive as the PSP Go. Three months after the release of the Windows 7 XP Mode beta, Microsoft on Tuesday unveiled the release candidate (RC) version of the product. XP Mode allows users to run older applications that might not be compatible with Vista or Windows 7 within the Windows 7 OS. It is geared primarily toward small- and medium-sized businesses, and works with the RC and release to manufacturing (RTM) versions of Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise.

Palm has announced that the Pixi – a tiny webOS-based handset – will come to Sprint this holiday season. The phone will hit shelves without Wi-Fi, only with EVDO Revision A, with 8GB of storage onboard, a 2 megapixel camera with flash, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a 2.63-inch, 320×400 capacitive multitouch display. The Palm Pixi is the successor of the Centro. Compared to the Palm Pre, the Pixi introduces a native Facebook application, as well as new Yahoo! and LinkedIn integration for Synergy.

I needed a Windows 7 PC, but like many home CIOs I’d refused to let Vista into my house so had no upgrade path for any of the existing machines.
