ExternalInterface in its essence is a set of API which allows one to communicate seamlessly between ActionScript and the Flash Player container. As simple as it may sound, this new class in Flash8 is revolutionary in many ways. In previous versions of Flash, JavaScript communication was done via fscommand. But with the introduction of ExternalInterface it is now possible to call a JavaScript function from Flash directly and send any number of arguments in most of the data types, and the JavaScript function can send data back to Flash and is received by Flash almost immediately.

The jsc compiler project is being supported by a number of ScriptCoreLib assemblies. Recently I have been playing with the idea of automatic network code generator. Think C# to IL and later IL to ActionScript. This would enable fast multiplayer game prototyping and programming. If you are a game development shop and you find this interesting I would be more than happy to work out a business arrangement with you to secure funding to make it a solid offer.

For years now flash websites have been the bane of my life as an SEO professional. I don’t know how many times I have had to explain to a website owner or designer that the amazing, innovative flash website they built is completely useless for natural search engine results. Back in 2002 Google tried to tell us they actually could index flash, but it turned out to mean nothing more thanthey could see the SWF file but not read the content and rank it in a way they did for HTML pages.

After many months of hard, fun, frustrating & rewarding work, I am happy to announce the first public release of the OpenZoom SDK . What Is the OpenZoom SDK? Today, I’m gonna talk more in general about my experience in Gaia Framework. Here are some of the details I’ll cover in this post. The Index – using the index effectively. Assets Management – some example, on how to hook up an xml and graphical asset. The Index For me, index is best used for :- Positioning a generic background for all your flash pages because, index appears the lowest depth. All you need to do is to just place the asset on stage. Be it image or just as color background.

Eleven days ago I posted about Priorities, Scheduling, Running, Etc. In that post I outlined two major Maker’s projects that I couldn’t seem to complete. Well, the support that my friends and family provided after that post got me to push through to today… I’m launching a public test version of V2. It’ll be FAIL in short order, but at least it’s out there and more or less running. What you see above is the new Flash embed widget. It’s not all that much sexier than the old one.

Well, there are example deployments don’t work for me on FF 3 or IE 6, so maybe they’re having trouble. But it looks like their code is meant for syndication only, so it might work on TiddlySpot, but probably not on your stand-alone, disconnected home PC. To get it to work on TW by itself, you would need to implement it in javascript. The first step towards that goal, and not wanting to reinvent the wheel, would be to find some existing code that could be borrowed. Looking around, I see some C# code and some java code.

Free Software Flash — Where do we can download it? I don’t sure if it totally free. They only offer for trial and after the time limitation, we have to pay some money for buying the product. It truly disappointed. Software free for this day is taken for webmasters who want to learn how to create a flash of other people. With Flash Decompiler Trillix you can restore the code from the SWF to FLA, then you can get the elements that can be edited and without installing the Flash modofication study.
Flex Style Introspectionwebdevbros.net
08/16/2009
If you have ever used the Flex introspection method describeType() , you certainly have noticed it doesn’t output any style metadata. The only way I found so far was to instantiate the UIComponent type I’m looking at and call the function regenerateStyleCache(false) . The entire list of available styles is then accessible via the properties inheritingStyles and nonInheritingStyles . Generating the style cache is computation-intensive so like most reflection and introspection operations make effective use of it :) Some code example after the jump…

By lukeshep | Published: August 16, 2009 Invisible Ink Web Design BlogI stumbled across these tutorials a while ago while brushing up on my Flash skills and found them quite useful. They are heavily based on Actionscript and it’s a good place to introduce yourself to coding Flash, rather than relying on the timeline, etc. While most of these tutorials are hosted on the same site, I did have to hunt around a bit for a key one, right in the middle of the series.

Using LocalConnection Reliablyblogs.adobe.com

Following up on my previous post about changes to LocalConnection in AIR 1.5.2 , I thought I’d post some further information about how LocalConnection operates. Although definitely in the realm of implementation detail, it’s critical to know if you want to use LocalConnection in a reliable fashion. To the best of my knowledge, the following applies to all versions of LocalConnection to date. LocalConnection operates via a shared memory segment that contains a list of endpoints listening for messages, plus a buffer in which messages can be queued up.

In the third and final part of this tutorial, we’ll finish off this game by adding collision detection and scoring. Before we start, make sure you’ve read the first and the second part of this series. So, lets get to it. Adding collision detection : In order to add collision detection, we’ll need to add an Event listener to the ball. After the ball defnition, add the following code : ball.addEventListener(CollisionEvent.COLLIDE, onCollision); Now, we have to code what happens if a collision occurs.
