I’ll be the first to admit, I’m no 3D programmer – but whenever I needed it in Flash, I just used Papervision3D. It seems the default standard these days and the amount of available information, documentation, and tutorials seems endless. For quite some time though, I’ve been wanting to try out Away3D. The folks who use it, swear by it and I’ve seen some really great stuff done using it. Likewise, I’ve also really been wanting to try out Box2DFlash for some 2d physics simulations.

A Close Look at the ActionScript 3.0 Event Framework

There seems to have been a lot of Flash bashing, both within the community and without, in the last few weeks. In terms of the external criticism, I refrained from a knee jerk reaction: “Flash sucks? Well, YOU suck!” and actually took a look for myself at the state of Flash. Of course, there are some on the outside who would say that there is no excuse for Flash anywhere ever. They refuse to even install the Flash player plugin on their machine. On the other end of the spectrum are those who think that Flash is the be-all and end-all.

I came across an issue yesterday loading ads from ad.doubleclick.net. For some reason, the crossdomain.xml file from ad.doubleclick.net was unavailable and the URLLoader class making the call eventually threw a Security Error , as the crossdomain policy is the first thing it looks for when making calls outside the SWF’s Security Domain . This is easily handled by listening for Security Error Events from the URLLoader and additionally wrapping the load call in a try / catch statement.

In my post on March 14 called ¿Puedes hablar con su computadora?  (good grief, it’s been 5 and a half months!), I discussed an One Laptop Per Child XO program called Hablar Con Sara and how I thought one could add context to such a program and make if more effective.  The objective is to put together a program that allows a foreign language student to practice conversation with their computer.

I was on vacation for a couple of weeks, but I am back. Continuing from my last example Flex 3 Example: Drawing a path at run time with adding and deleting points capabilities , I expanded the code to allow creating polygons at run time. To create a polygon, the previous code was enhanced with graphics.endFill(); on the RedrawPath method.
