Recently saw this link on BoingBoing . Some fellas used Adobe’s Alchemy (this is the first I’ve heard of it) to compile Dooms C++ code directly to Actionscript. Today we are scheduled to watch a live streaming webcast from Lightwave. This will be partly to view a live demo of the new features in Lightwave Live 9.6, but it will also partly be to see how another company executes a live webcast. Not too long ago we took part in our own live streaming webcast. It featured a chat in addition to the streaming video and would be viewed by thousands of people at once. [Editor's note: Finally, Adobe's purchase of Macromedia is bearing fruit! The fine-control that Illustrator and InDesign have over typography (text layout) is now available in Flash and Flex as an ActionScript 3.0 framework. So my little project I’ve been working on was a slideshow in Flash, specifically Actionscript 3. I decided that I wanted to see if I could program something in Flash without actually using Flash or even Flex Builder. I decided to use the Flex SDK (free) with the Eclipse IDE (also free). Combined with the AXDT Eclipse plugin (free) and LuminicBox (also free), and I got myself a pretty powerful AS3/Flex/Air development platform* at the cost of $0.
