I have a swf with some html copy below it. It should (seemingly) expand when clicking the button and contract when clicked again. see example I need to swap the z-Index of the divs containing the SWF and the html copy. The swf is embeded using SWFObject . I have two simple javascript methods for re-assigning the SWF div’s z-index, but in FireFox these  from the actionscript to the  javascript methods are not getting through.  It works  in Safari and in IE (version ?) on the pc.

I’ve always been fascinated by networks, and everything that can be modeled as a graph. My friend Andy Hatch has been working on utility classes for runtime asset loading in Flash, specifically runtime fonts. Runtime fonts are a particularly tricky thing to get right, but this looks like a clean, simple solution to the problem.

I made this as a simple test for RSS parsing for a job a little while back, and it never was used for anything, so I’ll post it here as it may be of use to someone. Its a simple RSS parser that uses the RSS and Atom libraries http://code.google.com/p/as3syndicationlib/ to handle parsing its RSS feeds. Although parsing RSS is trivial, I wanted to use a provided Adobe library for the hell of it. The file is not overly documented and uses my scrolling panel and scrollbar classes to handle scrolling the RSS items.

So I’ve been looking at Mate and trying to get my head around the way it manages the MVC process. The main difference between Mate and Cairngorm and the one thing I’ve been struggling to fix in my head is the relationship between the Views and the Model. In Cairngorm your Commands will update the ModelLocator (usually a Singleton class) and your views will bind to the Model. The View basically says ‘give me the data’ and the reference to the Model is there in the View (in most cases).

I will admit that when I first became a Rich Internet Application (RIA) developer, I initially threw my hat in with Microsoft’s Silverlight.  It was hugely advantageous to my career to be a publicized early adopter of the technology.  However, as a gaming platform, Silverlight does not have nearly as many tools, momentum, community and install base as Flash.  And, with the downturn in the economy, there isn’t very much traction in creating Silverlight portals for free games supported by ad revenue.
