While it should come as no surprise, Apple is doing very well, thank you. Amidst all of the gloom and doom, the hand wringing and the concern over the future, Apple is simply rolling along as if to say “What recession?” In what will likely be a classic case study in business schools for the future, Apple has taken an approach to the market that is so revolutionary that it has to be examined. You see, they are providing high quality products that fill needs for their customers.

Apple commands a relatively paltry share of the worldwide cell phone market, despite the success of their iPhone. That’s because, regardless of appearances, the field is overwhelmingly dominated by regular old dumbphones, which still outsell smartphones by a wide margin. In fact, Apple and RIM still only command three percent of global cell phone sales taken together, with all smartphones only accounting for only 13 percent of mobile phones worldwide.

Barnes & Noble , the beleaguered online bookstore, opened its eBook store yesterday. That, by itself would be a major news story, but B&N also announced that it has partnered with Plastic Logic , which is expected to release a highly anticipated Kindle competitor soon. As you may already know, BlackBerry Messenger 5 was leaked the other day and has been getting a lot of good reviews even though it is not officially available yet.  My initial plan was not to install it and just wait for it to be actually be released, which we hear could be any day now.  I say that was my initial plan because, after being asked about 500 bagillion times what I thought about it, I decided to go a head and install BBM 5 so that I could give it the once over.  I’ve got to say that I am pretty impressed.
