A New version of Pandora Internet Radio for the BlackBerry was released today.  Verision 1.1.0 adds a host of new features including stereo AAC over your wireless connection and not just your Wi-Fi connection like in older versions. Features and bug fixes include: Significantly better audio quality over mobile network – now using stereo AAC+ (HE-AAC) for both Wi-Fi and mobile connections Listener preference option to select “High” quality stream over mobile network or “Normal” for slower connections.

Nokia has their Ovi Store while RIM and Palm has their BlackBerry App World and App Catalog respectively, and just recently, Microsoft announced that their Marketplace will be ready to accept app submissions on July 27th. BlackBerry users can already download music to their smartphones in various ways, but wouldn’t it be nice if something like Apple’s iTunes and Nokia’s Comes With Music would exist for them too? Well, according to the Financial Times , a music download service will be available for BlackBerry starting September 2009. Apparently, RIM is working for this with 7Digital , a music download provider based in the UK. RIM’s plan is to provide about 6 million songs that will be available for over-the-air downloads in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany Italy and Spain.

Google released Google Voice for BlackBerry and Android-powered smartphones on Wednesday. Last month, Google sent invitations to people who signed up to test the service that is based on technology from GrandCentral, which Google acquired in 2007. Google Voice gives users a single phone number that will ring his or her home, work and mobile-phone numbers. Users can control the service to have specific callers ring a particular phone. A little while ago we told you about the Score Mobile launching their free BlackBerry application for all the sports fans out there. At the time, only a few sports were offered in their catalogue but they promised that more would be added at a later time. It is now later and they have kept good on their promise. In addition to following NHL, NBA, PGA and the MLB you can now also stay on top of the NFL, NASCAR, MLS, CFL, NCAAB and NCAAF.  What sports nut doesn’t want the ability to catch the latest sporting news, stats and scores whenever you wish (you should still try to put the Berry down during…ya know ya know!).

It always amazes me when the populists get uptight because a company has too much market share . With a year and 1.5 billion downloads under its belt, maybe its time for Apple’s App Store—and Music Store—to get some competition. Whether Apple likes it or not. Is it really in customers’ best interest for Apple to have such tight control over what iPhone and iPod users can buy? Of course not. With the Obama Justice Dept. seemingly looking for evil monopolies to take apart, maybe Apple would be a good place to start.
