While TiPb is still waiting for an iPhone 3.1.1 bug-fix update, not to mention iPhone 3.2 betas to start dropping, it looks like the competition is getting their OS on this week:Palm webOS 1.2 didn’t re-enable the iTunes hack (kudos Palm!) but did bring some nifty new features including Amazon MP3 downloads over 3G, the foundations for paid apps in the App Catalog, improved cut and paste, and much more. Android 1.6 Donut is expected to hit now’ish as well.

Sierra Wireless has just announced five new AirCard data cards and USB modems, including devices supporting HSPA+ frequencies . The AirCard 503, AirCard USB 308, and AirCard USB 309 all support peak download speeds of 21Mbps, with the former being a 2-in-1 PC card / ExpressCard device and the latter two being basically the same USB modem (except the first one supports 850MHz, 1900MHz, and 2100MHz frequencies, while AirCard USB 309 limits you to 900MHz and 2100MHz bands).

If you looked around the room at the C4 conference this past weekend, you’d certainly see no lack of iPhones—it seemed like every attendee had at least one. But just because the indie developer crew were all packing Apple’s handset for personal use doesn’t mean that their professional opinions were quite as enthusiastic. At last year’s conference, the ire of developers was focused largely on Apple’s enforcement of what was often referred to as the “[expletive] NDA,” the non-disclosure agreement that essentially acted as a gag order …

With even more app usage data, T-Mobile will be able to improve its retail strategy and help its customers discover new apps. On the other side of the coin, developers will be able to use the data to improve the applications they create.

With Facebook’s rapid growth around the world, more and more of its new users have been accessing the site through their mobile phones . And mostly not through the iPhone, but rather through the devices made by Nokia , Samsung and others — the devices that dominate much of the world. A company called GetJar has been making it easier for these mobile Facebook users to find mobile apps designed to operate natively on their device of choice, with some impressive results.

Obligatory “Minority Report” reference. ©2002, DreamWorks SKG Recently there has a few rumblings about how in the “future” there won’t be any buttons , moving parts, discs, or anything else mechanical .  While it is true that technology is driving in the general direction of “solid state,” I think it’s a little early to say that we will experience anything close to a complete transformation. If computer graphics and robots have something as difficult to over come as the Uncanny Valley , then who’s to say that there won’t be a similar reaction for physical interactions.

Sony’s new $250 PSP Go gaming handheld debuts today. With its slide-out control pad, it’s the first PSP that’s truly pocketable (closed, it looks and feels a little like a BlackBerry Storm). It’s also dumped the tiny UMD optical disc drive of early PSP model, making it the first gaming portable from Sony or anyone else. It’s got 16GB of built-in memory for games, movies, and music, plus an M2 Micro slot (yes, another proprietary Sony format) for additional storage.

Radio: The flap on apps and Spotify spicegormanmediablog.blogspot.com

The buzz at both the NAB Radio Show and Public Radio programmers convention was the need for stations to have smartphone apps . Creationists and evolutionists can debate the chicken or the egg but you can’t argue app before content. So what, besides Fred Jacobs and other brilliant salespeople whispering in your ear to buy, does an app do for a radio station’s listenership if its programming content just plain sucks out loud? Too many stations are rushing their apps without having the content to back it.

As great an email device as the BlackBerry is, one of the things that you can’t do is flag your emails for follow up.  Well, once again, BlackBerry developer extraordinaire, Fabian Heuwieser, creator of about a dozen or so extremely popular premium and free BlackBerry applicatoins, has released LaterFlag . LaterFlag is a free BlackBerry app that does what your BlackBerry should do (and will do in OS 5) out of the box.  As the name implies, LaterFlag simply allows you flag your emails and set their priority as high or low.

There isn’t much we don’t know about the BlackBerry Storm 2 , especially now that there is pretty solid confirmation that it will hit stores around October 25. Boy Genius got its hands on a product inventory shot from Best Buy which shows that the stores will be getting Storm 2 dummy units starting October 25th. We assume Verizon should be receiving the phones around the same time. It shouldn’t be too long after that we start seeing the all-touchscreen phone with its improved SurePress hit the shelves.

Independent, cross-platform app store GetJar launched what it calls a App Download Page, which enables publishers and developers to consolidate their apps and drive more downloads through their own sites (as opposed to the app stores). Essentially this is a hosted, white label offering that enables a mobile site to detect a user’s phone and offer the correct version of a mobile app to download (BlackBerry vs. iPhone vs. Android vs. Windows Mobile vs. Symbian vs. read more

Hedone Design has been on a role lately.  They just released the new Simple Black and White theme a day ago and today released another new BlackBerry theme called Rollin’ .  This new colorful theme is the exact opposite of their Simple theme.  It comes packed with bright colors and graphics that will transform your home screen.  Rollin’ gives you that old school type feel and at the same time looks more like a piece of artwork than a theme.  Everything from the battery meter to the signal bar are built right into the background.

From a Blog Post The summer flick “Transformers 2,” most agreed, was terrible. So naturally, one wonders: how much better would the movie be playing on the 2.6-inch screen of a mobile phone? On Tuesday, mSpot , a five-year-old mobile entertainment company based in Palo Alto, Calif., will resolve that pressing question with a new service making full-length feature movies available on demand to 40 million cellphone subscribers.
