The current release continues the tradition of dotting lots of i’s and crossing plenty of t’s, but also brings a new broom to a few nooks and crannies. GNOME 2.28 is complete.

Netbooks have grabbed a big chunk of laptop sales over the past couple years because they are small and inexpensive. Unfortunately, they also have squished keyboards and screens that make them difficult to use. On the other end of the spectrum are the sleek premium laptops such as the MacBook Air and the Dell Adamo. Like netbooks, these machines are extremely light and portable, but they are much thinner, have attractive designs and have full sized keyboards and big, bright 13? screens.

The Nokia 6303 Classic isn’t a high-spec, high-end dazzler, but updates one of Nokia’s most popular handsets of recent years â?? the 6300 â?? in its mid-tier portfolio. It reprises that model’s functional but classy metal-bodied build, again taking aim at users who want a reliable, no-nonsense but quality feeling handset. While Nokia’s recent 6700 Classic represents an alternative and more obvious upgrade path from the workhorse 6300 by introducing such delights as HSDPA 3G connectivity and a 5-megapixel camera, the 6303 is a more functional revision to the 6300 template.

The Samsung InstinctQ for Sprint, also known as the Samsung M900, has just been approved by the FCC. The picture gives us a little more info, like the landscape sliding QWERTY keyboard that graces the device. Back in July, the device appeared on the wi-fi alliance website, and we know the sprint samsung InstinctQ will be one Android smartphone. The InstinctQ is expected to feature an HVGA widescreen touch display, QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi radio, Bluetooth with stereo audio support and 3.0 megapixel camera with video recorder with the FCC documentation going on to list support for QChat and a microSDHC expansion slot as well.

A couple of weeks ago Apple pushed out iPhone 3.1 and no doubt they are already working on iPhone OS 3.0, which could possibly turn up at the end of the month judging by past OS releases. And so with this in mind, the iphone blog poses the question, “what do you want to see Apple prioritise for iPhone 3.2?” The iPhone already has direct TV and Movie downloads via WiFi there may not be an analogous improvement to iTunes and iPod this time. Google Latitude and Voice have been rejected so it’s likely Google Maps app won’t be updated either.

We’ve already seen the I5700 Galaxy Lite running Android in the white / lime green flavour , so the more interesting colour is on the right side which is a black / red colour which – I think – looks better. I like my devices black. More or less the full spec sheet is below, courtesy of Tmo Today . And yes, that does say TouchWiz, so we could be seeing a bit of Samsung manipulating on this handset – unlike the original I7500 Galaxy . Update: According to Tech Radar , this handset could be delayed until early 2010.

It appears there are two color variations to this phone – white with emerald accent and black with red accent. There’s no mistaking these are Android phones. At least one company is taking the hardware integration features of iPhone OS 3.0 seriously. Pioneer, which announced A/V home theater receivers with some serious iPhone connectivity in June, has just revealed an iPhone app (iTunes link) designed to integrate with two of its brand new in-dash navigation units . While the iPhone app doesn’t provide iPod control without a hardware cable connection, it does allow you to search for points of interest or trip destinations on the iPhone, which then communicates said information to the navigation unit.

Apple is no doubt already hard at work on iPhone OS 3.2, the second minor update to the third major release of their mobile platform. Sure, we got iPhone 3.1 just over two weeks ago on Sept. 9, but looking back, we should expect to see the first beta versions of 3.2 sooner rather than later. By way of comparison, iPhone 2.1 was released on Sept. 12, 2008. iPhone 2.2 Beta 1 was released on Sept. 25, with some tweaks to App Store and Safari’s UI. iPhone 2.1 Beta 2 dropped on Oct.

Continued complaints by iPhone owners about fast-draining batteries have prompted Apple to ask some users to install power-logging software on their smartphones in an effort to diagnose the problem, according to messages on the company’s support forum. “Some of you may already have been informed via e-mail [by Apple], but for those of you that haven’t, I can assure you that Apple is trying to get to the bottom of this problem,” said a user identified as “mikefradette” Friday on a support thread dedicated to poor battery performance.
