Leah Gabriel Nurik over at ChannelInsider.com writes about whether there is a relatiionship between the delays in Windows Mobile 7 and the newly released photos of what is being called the Zune phone or new smartphone from Microsoft. We’ll never know the truth but there must be a connection there that explains the frustrations I’ve had with Zune all together. I’ve been waiting to see a Zune phone for a long time and my expectation was that it should be a super device that trumped all the existing devices.

I was on a panel a few weeks ago with  Rob Enderle  a few weeks back and he was asked by an international journalist what he expected in terms of financial news in the next few months. He made a very interesting point that, being an Apple fanboy, I ignored at the time. He said that Windows 7 would drive a whole new wave of hardware buying and inflate (in a good way) IT spending….. I filed this tidbit away next to my thoughts of maybe one day buying a  Zune , but then I cracked open the  HP Envy 13  and thought back on  my own recent experience with Windows 7 — and what he’s saying makes sense.

1) Halo: Other shoot-em-up games from console and PC platforms have made it to the iPhone, so there’s no reason that Microsoft shouldn’t make a pocket version of Halo. Especially if there were some sort of mini-game you could play on your iPhone that would help your profile on the Xbox edition. 2) Zune: Microsoft may was well extend its Zune plan to the iPhone as Apple seems to have little interest in offering an all-you-can listen music subscription service.
