In previous posts I’ve told you why software appliances are great: they simplify software installation and reduce support costs. And they make it easier for prospective customers to try out a new application without going through a complex setup procedure. We think these reasons are pretty compelling, but it’s always nice to have outside validation.

I’m leaning currently to biting the bullet and ordering a new Samsung X360 34P (see The Hunt for A New Laptop Continues ). It’s slightly cheaper than the comparable new Lenovos, but a little more expensive than some versions of their referbs. I have faith in the Lenovo referb, but not the third parties offering referbed Samsungs, so it would have to be a new one. The reasoning behind this decision is that the Samsung wins on weight and battery life, has a 128G SSD, and at least ties on almost everything else I care about, except processing power where it lags a bit but still seems adequate.

Lately, I’ve realized that my computer is full of data and is close to its limit. Normally, I burn data onto a CD or DVD and then delete it off my system. The problem is that over time, the CDs have developed a few unreadable areas. So, I’ve pretty much lost a few chunks of data. To combat this problem, I’ve decided its time for me to buy an external hard drive. I figure 500 GB is more than enough for me right now.
