We are sometimes spoiled these days when it comes to data and software on our personal computers. We can store so much of it on one disk drive and we can retrieve it very quickly. And these personal computers just hum along for week after week with no problems whatsoever. We are even prudent in backing up our “My Documents” folder to a re-writeable CD once in awhile. Until one day, you computer does not boot up. You take it to a computer repair shop and they replace the disk drive, reload Windows, and deliver it back to you.

I RARELY see the SL viewer crash on my PC anymore. I’ve been though at least two different PCs and SL viewer dosen’t crap out on me as nearly as much as it plagues everyone else I know. I can multi-task, play music, surf the web, and run 2-3 more instances of the SL viewer with little problems. Even before I’ve been running Windows 7 beta/RC (64bit), but since January it’s only crashed on me once.  A lot of the problems I tend to find are with bad RAM, problems with the hard drive, and overheating.  Don’t assume that just because other games and apps don’t crash or cause problems like this, yet SL viewer does, dosen’t mean it’s the fault with SL’s software.

Over the weekend I finished reading The Drunkard’s Walk by Leonard Mlodinow. It’s a great, very readable book about how probability (randomness and chance) runs so many aspects of our lives. Update (11:47 AM, 7/13/2009): Word is slowly coming forth that build 7600.16384 is the RTM, but not the final copy that will be posted to TechNet for partner downloads. Wzor is reporting that the final TechNet ISO will be version 7600.19000. As Microsoft typically increments the major version (7600) when code has been altered, a subversion change from 16384 to 19000 could indicate an engineering signoff or changes to trivial content like themes and wallpapers.Wzor points out that Windows Vista SP2 went through a similar series of subversion changes leading up to its RTM signoff.

Recently Microsoft has signed off the RTM (Released to Manufacturing) build of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 with tag numbers. Internal informations says that this build of Windows 7 RTM is compiled on July 10, 2009, at 19:45 PM. This is being said that Windows 7 RTM will be build 7600 with version number of 6.1.7600.16384 and full build string of 6.1.7600.16384.win7_rtm.090710-1945, if it’s truly the final gold RTM code for Windows 7. Leaked information and ISO images of Windows 7 RTM Build 7600 are from Chinese sites.
