Its sounds like a bold new direction for Microsoft! What is it I hear you say? The introduction of the Microsoft retail experience. No doubt based on their highly successful staff store on Redmond Campus. The store which sells all things Microsoft, from software to hardware including the super cool Zune 3 (I want one) and much more. According to reports Microsoft plans to locate stores close to their arch rival “Apple”. Hmm interesting. In case you missed it I recorded a behind the scenes video earlier this year.

I got a sad e-mail yesterday from a person I’ve never met: it wasn’t overly dramatic, but it did make me cry just a little bit. The e-mail was from Syncplicity staff and it told me about how Syncplicity beta for Mac — the awesome cloud syncing software that keeps my desktop PC and Macbook in touch — was going to be pulled back for further development. Apparently there were some issues that need to be fixed with major changes, but they don’t have the time to do that right now.

Microsoft has announced the beta of Windows Home Server Power Pack 3, and this version contains a nice Windows Mobile related feature.  We know one of the huge bug a bears Windows Mobile users have is video playback performance, and the solution is usually transcoding, which is usually onerous and time consuming.  WHS 3 will automatically copy TV recordings from Windows Media Centre and has a new feature where it will also automatically create a transcoded lower bit rate version in WMV format for your Windows Mobile phone or Zune.

Bose has finally caught up with the times by releasing the Bose SoundLink, a speaker system that receives your wirelessly streamed music from a USB Dongle on your PC. Bose has decided to throw aside Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as streaming possibilities, and only use RF for data transfer – weird. Anyway, the Bose SoundLink is $550, comes with a 3.5mm auxiliary jack, and has a 3 hour rechargeable battery. It will ship August 27 and we can already hear Bose fanboys shouting outside with anticipation.

Yesterday Microsoft unveiled official details of the features planned to be included in the Fall 2009 Xbox 360 Dashboard Update (that I am calling NXE 09) and a whole plethora of screenshots. The update to NXE 09 represents refinements, speed and usability enhancements to the NXE. NXE 09 is architecturally based on the software bench line set when they made the transition to NXE. One of the biggest changes is that they can add functionality and update sections of the OS without having to bundle and reinstall everything on the OS in the update.

It isn’t exactly a secret that LG has at least a few Android handsets in the works . We must admit however, we’re still pretty excited to learn that the GW620 Eve may be the first LG device to run Android if only because it means an official unveiling might not be too far off. The evidence to support this claim is a handset profile for the phone that references the Android browser. Specs are still very much up in the air as the handset is not yet official, but as it stands we’re looking at an HVGA touchscreen display, full-QWERTY keypad, Wi-Fi and UMTS/HSDPA connectivity.
